The Oakley company, like almost all of the high fashion companies in the world want to keep their new designs a secret for as long as they can. For the second they release a new style design, that item is knocked off or counterfeited in factories. For the most part, these factories are located in the Far East with a concentration of factories in China. The knock off business of sunglasses relies on the twin situations that will always be with us: poverty and greed. For it is the poverty of the factory workers that enables them to be victimized by the factory overlords. The poor don't have choices. The greed is the hallmark of the factory owners, the shipping companies, the customs agents, the dockworkers, the retail store owners and finally, of course, the consumer's greed is the beginning and the end of the counterfeiting process.
