This is a photograph of one of the early spring flowers in the Olmsted Flower Bed in New York City's Central Park. The Mall and Literary Walk form the "Broadway and Main Street" of the park if you will and the memorial flower bed is part of this configuration.

Surrounding the circular flower bed are benches. Visitors to the park can enjoy the flowers and trees, refer to a map to plan their next stop in the park, read a book or enjoy music performed by street musicians nearby.

Park admirers can donate funds to the park in many ways. One of these ways is through the park's Adopt-A-Bench program. The benches of the park are where people stop and admire all of the other interesting people which are very much a part of the park's charm and allure.

BENCH FACTS

Central Park has approximately 9,000 benches, which would stretch seven miles if placed end to end.

Styles include:

Central Park Settee (wood & iron): Based on historic benches originally used in the Park, this bench has a simple design without armrests. It is found in informal, pastoral landscapes. World’s Fair Bench (wood & iron): Designed for the 1939 World's Fair, it is more ornate and features circular armrests. It is used in formal areas such as plazas; Wood and Concrete: the prototypical park bench, it is found throughout the Park and along the perimeter; Rustic Bench (wood): This handmade bench is found in the Park's woodlands and other picturesque areas; each one has a unique design and is usually made of locust or cedar.

July 2008 - James Bond wannabes can now spy on anyone and anything in your surroundings just by wearing a pair of mp4 sunglasses. Yes, they are pricey, but you can now purchase sunglasses with a video recorder embedded in the sunglasses frame. The lens is located just above the nose. The video records everything the wearer sees in 3gp format which can be converted into mp4 format then loaded up to youtube. Great for video bloggers!

July 2008 - Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, is teaming up with Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier to launch a clothing line in the Fall of 2008. The clothing line will be sold at Kitson, the store of choice for the world's pop culture celebrities. Super red hot designer Christian Audigier is opening up another one of his stores in Las Vegas this summer and to increase his own mystique, he is opening a nightclub in Sin City at the Treasure Island Hotel. The club will be called, "The Nightclub" and will opening On July 4th and we would not be surprised if Michael Jackson re-emerges at the Opening Night party.

June 2008 - Ray Ban breaks new color ground next month when they release their first ever pastel colored Ray Bans. The pastel color Wayfarers are being launched in New York City by a promotion that features billboards designed by five NYC-based artists. The company plans to unveil the billboards on July 1st and promises that one of them will "stop traffic". Ray Ban is hoping for a big summer hit with this latest trend in Wayfarer color.
