There is a rock outcropping in New York City's Central Park just south of the Memorial Field and to the west of the East Drive. From this outcropping of rock springs two magnificent trees. We do not know for certain, but it is doubtful the park's designers planted these trees intentionally. For as smart as they were, Olmsted & Vaux would have been unlikely to have designed the park so that a tree grows right next to a large rock group.

We believe it is more likely this seeds for these diverging trees were carried here by natural causes like the wind.
