The plaques bear the names of the company and of the soldiers who served and died together. The names of the men are evidence of melting-pot New York at the time of World War I: Owens, Prato, Whitby, Sullivan, Booth, Behrend, Carlsson, Chambers, Curtis, Depuis, Navitski, Specht, Pappalardo, Olsen, Lizewski.
Warren Harding, who was President of the United States at the time this Memorial Field was dedicated, was present at the dedication. The 14 bronze plaques commemorate the ultimate sacrifice given by these NYC based soldiers. They gave their lives in France in hard fought battles. One of these battalions became known as the Lost Battalion. The American cable television program network, A&E (which stands for Arts and Entertainment) produced a television documentary showcasing the heroic sacrifice given by these New York City based soldiers for the people of France in World War I.
