The grove in Central Park that is known as the Memorial Field is a tribute to the NYS-based soldiers who gave their lives in service to their country in World War I. The field is located in the east side of the park. The neighborhoods off this side of the park used to be known as the Silkstocking District, a reference to its wealthy residents.

At this time the Memorial Field area is almost rural, which is odd for an area in one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities, New York City, and in its crowl jewel park, Central Park. Furthermore, the Memorial Field is located in what used to be known as "The Silkstocking District," the Upper East Side.

The Memorial Field is located just south of the Rumsey Playfied. Rumsey Playfield is also known as Summerstage, so named for the music concerts scheduled there during the Summer.

Pictured above is the shield-shaped copper plaque devoted to the soliders of the 307th Infantry, 77th Division, Company L.
