This plaque honors the fallen soldiers of Company K. Company K was part of the Lost Battalion. Others in the Lost Battalion included: Companies A, B, C, E, G, H, 308th Infantry; Companies C, D 306th Machine Gun Battalion, and Company K, 307th Infantry.
The Lost Battalion was so named for the lengthy battle it fought against the German Army in France over a series of days in the Fall of 1918.
The men who died and honored here in Central Park were assigned to the Silkstocking District as the city's Upper East Side was known at the time.
