Several areas in Central Park are suitable for picnics. The Great Hill at West 106th Street near Central Park West, the East Meadow near Fifth Avenue between 97th and 101st Streets, the Ross Pinetum on the west side near 86th Street. Alcohol is prohibited in all parks, unless special approval is granted. Alcohol is served of course in the park's restaurants, Tavern on the Green and the Boathouse, but officially you can't bring alcohol into the park. There's also a fairly cheap wine and spirits store located on Broadway around Astor Place. In Brooklyn, you can consider the Greene Grape (Fort Greene and downtown Manhattan) and Red, White & Bubbly (Park Slope). Scotto's Wine on Court Street in Carroll Gardens has an ok selection, but if you know what type of champagne that you'd like to purchase, they will order it for you and sometimes give you a 10% discount. If you want to consider sparkling wine, then Domaine Chandon, a California winery, produces some great sparkling wines as well.

August 2008 -A big slice of Wedding Cake given to Moyra Smith by the Royal Chef for Princess Diana and Prince Charles will go to auction on August 27 at the Dominic Winter Book Auctions in Glos, United Kingdom. The 27-year-old slice of wedding cake celebrated the ill fated marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981. The wedding cake piece is decorated with the couple's Royal Coat of Arms.
