Can I rent roller blades in Central Park in New York City?
To rent roller blades of roller skates you must travel just outside the park to Blades Board & Skate (
www.blades.com). Blades' skate prices are usually $15-25 per day.
Blades West
156 West 72nd St. btw Columbus Ave. and Broadway, 212-787-3911
This store is a prime site for inline rentals, located only a block and a half from the West 72nd St. entrance to Central Park (and the summer weekend Skate Patrol stopping clinic). This also means the store can turn into a major zoo on sunny, warm weekend afternoons.
On any dry day, the Park is filled with thousands of skaters. While Central Park's drives are the
optimal setting for in-line and roller skating another popular area to skate in is the Bandshell . For skate dancers and those who like to watch them this is a great spot to let loose.
Location: Park Drives: Circling the entire Park, the drives provide three long distance routes - 6.1 miles, 5.2 miles or 1.7 miles, or shorter distances if you cross the Park at a number of scenic locations.
What are the skating hours: One can skate in the Park at any time, but it is optimal when the drives are closed to traffic on Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 3:00pm, and 7:00pm to 7:00am, and weekends from 7:00pm Fridays to 7:00am Mondays. We do not recommend using the Park drives when they are open to traffic. Note that the Park is officially closed from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 am. No permit is required.
FYI : The law requires that children under 14 years of age wear helmets. Speed limits are strictly enforced on the drives.
