Part of what contributes to the elegance of the Strawberry Fields area of New York City's Central Park is its lack of touristy signage. With all due respect to touristy signage . . .

There is however, one sign that visitors should look for. It is a message from Yoko Ono, the wife of the murdered artist John Lennon. It is embedded on a metal plaque and embedded into the large rock along the southern side of the hillside. The sign is easy to miss, so take care to look carefully for it.

The Falconer Statue is located on the top of a large rock overlooking Terrace Drive at the 72nd Street Cutoff. It is a bronze statue of The Falconer, one of the fine statues of Central Park. The sport of falconry or the training of falcons and hawks to capture wild game or fowl is elegantly depicted by the sculpture Simonds' masterful eye. It is often unnoticed from the ground, the statue is a figure of a young hunter dressed in an Elizabethan costume. His left arm is extends into the air. Perched at the tip of his fingers is a large falcon spreading its wings ready for flight. To get the best view of the statue one must climb the rock to observe its intensity. That is the standard. More expensive sunglasses will be better made, have better lenses, higher grade plastic, metal or color treatments or be made to last longer.
