Avedon and Versace Collaborations Exhibit: An exhibition of Richard Avedon's work on display in Milan offers an opportunity to look 10 years on at Gianni Versace's heritage of image-making. This photographic retrospective from the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, with the support of the Richard Avedon Foundation in New York, traveled on to Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam and San Francisco during 2008.

It does not include the campaigns that Avedon photographed to great fame, collaborating with Versace on creating the sharp, hard, fresh and, above all, energetic images that encapsulated the 1980s and early 1990s.

The Avedon oeuvre is of his early photographs, taken in postwar Italy and it inevitably focuses on his famous portraits against a white ground, getting to the soul of the subjects, from the creased faces of the sad-eyed Duke and Duchess of Windsor to the infamous lineup in Andy Warhol's studio.

In a side exhibit, the Avedon/Versace collaboration is shown on screens where the fashion world can be reminded of the birth of the supermodel, as Christy Turlington, Nadia Auermann, Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour and Claudia Schiffer lined up as a regiment of power women for the 1994-95 Versace collection.
