Giorgio Armani :: Brief History
Born in a small town near Milan, Italy in 1934, Giorgio had a normal Italian childhood. Like many, he loved going to the movies and the theater. When he was 23 years old, he worked in a department store La Rinascente.
Armani was eventually brought into the office of the store's style department. There, he brought in objects from around the world, previously unknown or rarely put before the Italian consumer.
Just as Yves St Laurent designed in the house of Christian Dior, and Donna Karan designed for Anne Klein, so Giorgio Armani designed in the house of Nino Cerruti. After less than a decade working in this capacity, he felt the confidence to leave the house and he became a freelance designer. What a sense of freedom this must have brought him |
Good Looking Guys Run Fashion Houses
Giorgio is just one example: others are Ralph Lauren, Kenneth Cole that Studio 54 guy, Halston.
Did you ever wonder if Halston was that guy's first or last name? Well, his real given name is:
Roy Halston Frowick (not very designer-label-like . . .)
