In 1950, Hobie Alter was a young man who now described himself as "restless". He was a teenager really when he made or "shaped" his first surfboard in the father's garage.

Hobie offers surfboards, bodyboards, kayaks, catamarans, fishing supplies, apparel for men and women and of course, our favorite, sunglasses. Little Hobie Alter created a great life for himself and thousands of other enthusiast.

By 1954, he and his family had a hunch that Hobie was on to something that could be fun and profitable. He opened up his surf shop in Dana Point, California in 1954. They were right. Hobie was the right guy in the right place to catch the early 1960s wave of California Surf Mania.
