 There was never ever anything too outrageous for this exciting performer. He was the best friend of feathers and Swarovski crystal.
There wear a lot of outfits that he wore that must have been extremely uncomfortable. Take this costume with its extremely oversized headdress. While we are sure it was tacked on securely, a false move to the left or a funky wiggle to the right and down you go!
For a period of time in the early 1980s, Elton was doing the suits and straw hat thing. The photo to the extreme left is an example from that period.
Elton has since given up the extreme costumes. He auctioned off his costume collection as a fundraising effort for charity. He selected Sotheby's as the auction house.

Cropped away from the costumed body, the snapshot above almost looks like a mugshot but it is not! It is a photograph from the 1970s of a pair of glasses with the initials EJ designed on the bridge of the nose.
This is similar to the design favored by Elvis Presley who liked his EP initials in the same location. It is surprising that Elton would use these glasses as he was always more original than that. |
In the early years of the 21st century, all things turned to bling and, although Elton was decades in front of that, by the time he was over 50, he began to streamline his eyewear designs. Here, in a nod back to the 1970s, you can see the EJ reappears on the lenses of his glasses that have been delicately trimmed using the Austrian crystal from Swarovski.
