Buddy Holly, Musical Pioneer, American Pop Culture Icon, Genius
Buddy Holly was an American guitarist who was born in 1936 and died in a plane crash in February 1959. Along with three other musicians, he formed a musical group called the Crickets. The Crickets became an important influence in the emerging contemporary musical scene in the United States.
Based in Texas, the Crickets surrounded and supported the talented Mr Holly, who was an original singer and songwriter in a musical style that was unknown to the musical scene before his surprising arrival.
The style of music Mr Holly and the Crickets was upbeat and effervescent. In his songs, Mr Holly wrote and sang of topics of eternal interest to young adults, thus ushering in the era when the youth of the country were cast a voice in adult society.
When he was a boy, Buddy's eyesight was measured at 20/800. He need glasses to correct his vision and wore wire frames throughout high school. He settled on the thick black frames that would become one of his trademarks afterward.
Buddy was one of the first performers of the modern age to understand cosmetic surgery. The importance of a good set of teeth and a pair of glasses with good clean lines became part of the early Buddy Holly package.

Buddy Holly Style Glasses For Sale
Pictured below is a publicity photo of the young Buddy Holly showing off the caps on his teeth. This was cosmetic dental surgery performed during the late 1950s. This was a very good job for that time, particularly. Back then it was called, "getting your teeth capped."
In the winter of 1959, Holly and several other members of a touring rock show boarded a small plane in Iowa to reach their next concert town quickly. The plane crashed into the mountains after traveling for 8 miles. All on board were killed.
In the 1970s, musician Don McLean wrote and recorded a song titled, "American Pie" which, in cryptic verse, lays down a long series of reflections, missives and misgivings over the trail of musicality following the death of Buddy Holly. The verse repeats, "The Day the Music Died," with Buddy Holly positioned in the song as the "Music."
For many, Buddy Holly and the Crickets are the audio snapshot of the 1950s in America. Many important contemporary musicians who followed cite Mr Holly's work as a major influence on their own eventual direction.
