Versace Sunglasses Stolen
A Port Washington man was arraigned Tuesday on drug and robbery charges after he stole a pair of Versace sunglasses from a Manhasset optical shop, the Nassau police said. Sunglasses are a very common item to steal because they are so easy to unload, pawn, sell cheaply.
Drugs and hypodermic needles were found in his possession when officers arrested him for the robbery, the police said.
Kevin Cleveland, 45, appeared Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead on charges of robbery, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of hypodermic instruments, the police said.
Cleveland, of 1368 Port Jefferson Blvd. in Port Jefferson, entered the Manhasset Optical Group on Great Neck Road at around 1:30 p.m. Monday and put the sunglasses into his bag, the police said. When confronted by a sales clerk, he shoved the clerk and ran from the store, the police said.
Sixth Precinct Officers Frank Nathan and Daniel Spore arrested the suspect on Maple Street near Northern Boulevard at 2:05 p.m. Monday and he was found to be in possession of the sunglasses, along with hypodermic needles and a powdery white substance, the police said.
There were no other customers in the store at the time of the robbery, and no injuries were reported. End of story.
