Sunglasses ID Thief
A baseball cap and a pair of sunglasses in a car were the clues Roseville police needed to arrest a man on suspicion of robbery.
The cap and glasses belonged to a contractor who had jumped into the suspect's car through an open window in an attempt to keep the alleged thief from getting away with two tool boxes, police said.
The contractor managed to get back out of the car with the tool boxes, but his cap and sunglasses fell off as he fought with the robber, police said.
When the suspect's Camaro was spotted by an officer in a residential area an hour later, the contractor's cap and sunglasses were still in the car, said Dee Dee Alomar, police spokeswoman.
The incident occurred at 9:40 p.m. Friday as two contractors from Sparks, Nev., were loading items from their pickup truck at Lowe's on Fairway Drive in Roseville.
One of the contractors, 52, noticed a man taking the tool boxes from the pickup to a nearby Camaro, Alomar said. He ran after the fleeing suspect and dove into the car through an open passenger window.
After the two struggled, the suspect stopped the car and the contractor got out with the tool boxes, Alomar said. The thief then sped away, knocking the contractor to the ground, she said. A customer in the parking lot saw the altercation, pursued the Camaro and called police, but he lost the getaway vehicle in traffic, Alomar said. (end)

Police canvassed the area and found the suspect's vehicle outside a home on Sharp Circle, she said.
They arrested Ryan Christopher Gingerpot, 23, of Roseville on suspicion of robbery. He was being held in the Placer County jail in Auburn on $50,000 bail, Alomar said.
