Poker Players Like Sunglasses (continued from )

When Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2004 and took home over $2.5 million in prize money, the game of poker started becoming increasingly popular. That prize money was at the time the most money won at a WSOP tournament. With Moneymaker's win, he went from a nobody to one of the first poker celebrities that the game had ever seen.

After his appearance in the WSOP, people by the thousands were signing up to compete in the WSOP hoping to get rich and famous with a little skill and some luck. Names like Chris Moneymaker, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey became household names to every up-and-coming poker player. And while the hands were dealt at the UIC tournament, many of these famous names came up often times in conversation.

The UIC Tournament, although lacking star power like the WSOP, still drew a large crowd and a few spectators. Instead of the $10,000 entree fee for the WSOP, UIC students had to just show up in order to participate. This event, and every other campus events, is completely free to all students at UIC. Millions of dollars weren't up for grabs at the UIC tournament, but prizes like a DVD player, a set of poker chips, and also an iPod Shuffle were all given out to the winners.

UIC student Rana Holloway organized this event along with the last poker tournament. It was her idea to start the poker tournaments in order to get more males involved with the campus events and to provide a way to socialize. Poker tournaments are one of the newest additions to events offered on campus, however UIC does hold numerous other campus events such as free massages, arts and crafts, movies and live music. July 2008 - An ebay trader was given a suspended prison sentence and a tagging order after admitting dealing in counterfeit sunglasses when he appeared before a court in England. The trader was sentenced to eight months imprisonment suspended for 12 months and was given a three-month curfew order requiring him to wear a tag and be at home between eight in the evening and six in the morning. He was also ordered not to use ebay for 12 months. Acting on a complaint received from the public, officers from Gloucestershire County Council Trading Standards Service in England seized 65 pairs of sunglasses bearing the brand names Oakley Sunglasses and Chanel Sunglasses from the now-convicted trader. These were all marked with registered trademarks and designed to fool the public that they were the genuine product. Bad boy.

July 2008 - Columbus Geographic Systems has launched a new product demo for an advanced navigation system for New York's Central Park.
