Club Med Cancun Mexico Yucatan Peninsula

After much destruction following Hurricane Wilma in 2005, Club Med Cancun in Mexico reopened the resort in November 2006. For many years, it was a much beloved resort catering to the singles crowd. Those days are gone. Today it is for families and Senior Citizens. Yes, you heard that right, Senior Citizens.

Club Med, the Changeover from Singles

Club Med must have been afraid that its changeover from a swinging singles resort to a family resort might not entirely work, so the speculation is that they also reached out to the Senior crowd to fill out the excess capacity during the school season. And the Seniors have responded: during a recent visit to the property, represented a significant (30%) of the total guest population. Certainly there is nothing wrong with that, but potential guests should know what they might be in for at this Mexican resort. In its past life as a singles resort, there were no televisions or telephones in the room. Now there are flat screens in every room and of course, telephones.

Pictured left is the center of the village with the photographer's back to the ocean. The adobe colored building is the largest structure of the resort. The second floor is the Hacienda, which is the series of large banquet rooms, the main dining area of Club Med Cancun.

The street level floor, is for the retail shops. This building also includes an arcade which passes through toward the southern section, including Las Cazuelas restaurant, the Jade residence (pictured below) and the tennis courts.

Club Med Cancun, Room Furnishings

There was laminate and framed posters and sort of toss down furniture in the rooms.

Today, the furnishings are very very nice. Throughout this humble tour of the Club Med resort at Cancun, you will have the chance to review some of the design details of the furniture now in place at this beautiful Mexican vacation spot.

The resort is colorful, the property is stupendous and we are delighted to share some of it with you in these pages.

60th Birthday Gift Ideas

Pictured left is a walkway in the Jade residence building. Each building is named for a different semi-precious gemstone. The Jade building does not look differently than the other residence buildings, but there is a difference. It has its own concierge. Yes, indeed, the Jade residence is different.

It is the farthest residence from the center of the village. The idea of the Jade residence is for vacationers who want a truly quiet visit to the Caribbean in Mexico. The view is spectacular and there is a small beachfront area.

Christmas Gifts

Jade residents can order Room Service 24 hours a day. Las Cazuelas restaurant is about 200 feet away, and the outdoor massage tables are but a coconut toss away from Jade. It is entirely possible for the Jade resident to spend an entire vacation away from the center of the village should they choose that lifestyle.

In early April, 'Pezheads' around the world came to California's Silicon Valley to view a rare pineapple Pez dispenser. It was one of hundreds on display at the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia. Others included: Bugs Bunny, Darth Vader and Elvis Presley. Pez's popularity spawned a 2006 documentary, Pezheads the Movie, at least nine collecting guides and an annual conventions across the USA. The museum has at least one of every dispenser sold to the public since 1927, some costing thousands of dollars. It also exhibits Pez-branded items from posters to vitamins to vending machines. It's true!
