The red buoys mark the edges of the swimmable areas of the beach from day to day. There are various reasons for the day to day differences of the beach. Some of this is the underwater currents, but in Cancun, some of this is due to the pattern of the seaweed rolling in to the shore.

An early morning walk or jog on the beach will find you watching the crews
Seaweed is an issue in Cancun on the beaches but not a large issue. Yes there are times when the seaweed is more prevalent than others in the water, but there are plenty of times where large areas of the water are clear.
Some of the hotels bury the seaweed each morning right on the beach. We don't know anything about the value of seaweed as mulch. It's likely pretty salty but it also probably goes back into the ocean in a healthy way. |
