Just the two word phrase "frat parties" conjures up so many images and associations. Those images and associations may even be in the form of fond memories. Or they could take the form of bad memories. It's very much dependent on your point of view.

For young men who are members of fraternities, frat parties are a heck of a lot of fun while they are happening. The next day, not so good for some with the stink of the fraternity house and the headaches from the hangover. But come the next Friday and Saturday night, they'll all get up and do it again. Four years, a party in every frat house.

But where do you get the girls? Well the first answer is sororities, of course! Fraternities and sororities partner up on campus in multi leveled relationships. Some of these relationship are set at the national level, that is that the overseeing Greek organizations create partnerships and pass various benefits of that partnership down into the states and onto the local campuses. These partnerships often provide the fraternity and sorority members both social and financial benefits. Aside from the obvious invitation to fraternity parties or sorority parties, members are offered various services at reduced rates. Insurance, credit cards, computers, subscriptions are all offered to members at a reduced rate.

Is it all fun and games at frat parties? No, it is not. Every year, the news reports overzealous activities related to drinking alcohol. Young men do crazy things and no one says that the young men in charge aren't plain crazy. Some of them are. Badly guided, some fraternities create drinking games associated with initiation that just scream, "BAD IDEA!" to everyone but the bullies who insist the pledges follow their insane guidelines.

But fraternities have a large philanthropic component to them as well. Often overlooked is the frat party the brothers throw for disadvantaged children in their local communities. Part of their mission statement is to be of service to the community. These sometime raucous young men can also have hearts of gold!
